Why is safety culture so important?
In 2020, right at the beginning of the pandemic, there were 33.530 deaths from traffic accidents in Brazil according to the Ministry of Health, being almost half of the number in 2012 (60.752). However, it is still a giant number if we consider the unique value that each life has.

Another important data is the statistics made available by the Frank Bird's Pyramid of Deviations, which reveals to us that There is no accident at work that occurs without reason.
Therefore, for each traffic fatality, 30.000 previous behavior deviations. As the data in the following image shows:

Therefore, it is more than essential that the fleet management implement a Safety Culture focused on reducing these risk behaviors. But how to do it?
How can Golfleet technology help as a powerful tool for fleet managers?
Before we address Golfleet technologies, it is also necessary to remember the importance of a Fleet Policy well structured by the management. Matter addressed in AHEAD Webcast 2nd edition of 2022.
With this in mind, all our systems have the scanning of the Fleet Policy, which allows managers to dictate the rules of the operation in real time to ensure greater safety for their employees.
In our video telemetry software, for example, the device reads aloud the rule in question at the time the infringement occurs.

Furthermore, we present the main Golfleet solutions and functionalities to be implemented with the Culture of Safety:

Speed by Road: track the violations committed by your drivers
our module add-on Speed per lane has a strong chance of being our main functionality in controlling infractions that may endanger the lives of drivers. Mainly from speeding, but going far beyond that.

An example of this is that many other systems that consider only high speed, end up not identifying drivers who have risky behavior in urban areas. Which is masterfully done by VVia.
With it, you can count on:
- Infraction charts, rankings and reports
- Real-time breach alert
- Analysis of infractions by heat maps
- BI for analysis of information by type of infraction
shooting module
Our shooting module, included in the systems of telemetry e video telemetry, is another important instrument in the analysis of infractions committed by drivers.
Many fleet managers end up leaving the shooting metrics out and forgetting that 7 offenses committed in 1km, for example, is much more serious than 7 offenses committed in 100km.
In view of this, the shooting module also helps to better understand the frequency of the number of violations per kilometer of each driver, in addition to:
- Distance traveled in KM
- Time on motion and motionless
- Time on without GPS
- time off
- Activity x idleness (within and outside business hours)
Video telemetry
Too many video telemetry software of the market usually highlight its fatigue sensor functionalities, however, more important than that, is to implement actions that avoid fatigue in its drivers.
That is, if one of your drivers is on a road with no shoulder and some sensor sends an alert to the management, how will it guarantee the safety of that driver?
After all, there are no nearby places to stop and sudden braking can put his life even more at risk. Therefore, there is little point in identifying fatigue while the driver is already driving. It is of great importance that fatigue prevention actions are implemented in Fleet Policies, such as:
- Avoid operations at night.
- Don't overwhelm your drivers with operations that are too far away.
- Provide dignified conditions for rest and adequate wages (so that drivers do not have to carry out other activities outside working hours and can rest properly.
- Among others.
Therefore, as the Videotelemetry software can help?
Through Verbal Coaching, for example, sends voice safety tips in situations like when performing dangerous overtaking, exceeding the permitted speed, etc., in addition, its fleet management also relies on tracking, functionality responsible for vehicle positioning and speed monitoring.

Main questions about Safety Culture in fleet management
How to initiate a Safety Culture implementation, give a “Start”?
Internal awareness campaigns together with managers are excellent for starting to implement a Safety Culture in your company, especially if you already have have a developed and well-structured Fleet Policy to highlight the rules of operations.
How to spread the Safety Culture in the operational team that uses fleet vehicles in their daily activity?
Dissemination is done daily in the company, either through training, awards, reports, Fleet Policies signed in addition to activities promoted by CIPA (Internal Commission for Accident Prevention), HR (Human Resources), among others.
How to ensure driver awareness?
The main thing is to make it clear that the company is concerned with the life of the driver, not just with expenses or vehicles. Keep the idea that the driver has people waiting for him at home.
In addition, having personalized training plans through the data present in our telemetry system is also essential to correct specific points of risk behavior in your company.
Fleet with more than one driver: what are the difficulties in evaluating occurrences?
Well, with video telemetry this process is facilitated on many levels, mainly by software facial recognition that allows you to individually identify each driver.
What is more effective: using telemetry events to point out an error or identifying that driver who drives well?
It depends a lot on the company's culture, there are operations that conduct their actions through benefits and others through “punishments”. That is, both work, but it depends on the company's decision on what would work best for its employees.
