You've probably heard the expression less is more, but you may not have thought about how it applies to fleet management. Do you know what the relationship is? When there is less speed, we have more safety. And more: When there is more technology, we have fewer accidents and costs involved in the operation.
Not for nothing, the Public Ministry of Minas Gerais (MPMG) titled the internal campaign, developed to raise awareness and change the reality of fleet management, as “Less is More, technology in favor of life”.

From challenge to solution
The administrative advisor of the Transport Management Directorate of MPMG, Luiz Carlos Pinto Bibiano, says that there was an excess number of infractions due to speeding.
“In addition, in the last five years, unfortunately, we had a fatal accident in which it was found that the driver was traveling at 140 km/h on a rainy day. We do not want this to happen again and we needed to act,” he highlights.
Bibiano notes that the Public Prosecutor's Office has an obligation to monitor compliance with the laws. “So, in my opinion, it is our obligation to have a campaign like this,” he points out, adding that the MPMG fleet has 305 vehicles and 250 drivers, which essentially transport people, that is, lives.
To structure and implement the campaign, it was necessary to go through some phases, such as:
- Define public fleet policies;
- Be in institutional compliance;
- Count on the support of senior management;
- Prepare a fleet policy notebook.
The next steps were to structure the data from the activity and carry out a study of the metrics and goals.

According to the advisor, since the acquisition of the module Velocity per lane (Vvia) da golfleet telemetry was done, the control became more accurate. “The telemetry provides well-structured data, which allows us to make decisions and act in a very strategic way”, he states.
Naturally, the results started to come in. “In 2023, we reduced the number of speeding violations by 30% and reduced fuel consumption by 26%. We didn’t have any serious accidents or victims,” celebrates Bibiano.
Thereby, MPMG has become a national reference in the adoption of policies aimed at road safety among public administrations. The Public Prosecutor's Office of Minas Gerais won the Efficient Public Fleet Management category in an award from the International Association of Fleet and Mobility Administrators (AIAFA).
Another recognition came with 13th place in the 100 Best Fleets, a ranking of the best fleet management practices, judged by NAFA – Fleet Management Association, from the USA, and by STOP Institute.
In addition to the award, Bibiano celebrates the fact that the campaign has had a huge social impact. “We have drivers who say that the campaign has brought about a change in their personal lives and that they have also become aware of this outside of work.”

The intention now is to strengthen and expand the work. To do this, He emphasizes that he makes a point of counting on our technology. “We got along so well that when we changed the contract with the rental company, we asked for Golfleet. We saw that our competitors didn’t have the same tools as us,” he explains.
According to Bibiano, all efforts will continue to be made to make traffic safer and achieve new goals. Forward!
And if you don't know yet Speed per lane, it will now be even easier to understand why MPMG has achieved so many significant results. All of this was only possible thanks to the possibilities of the module:
- Automatic parameterization
At Vvia, speed limits are adjusted according to the distance traveled, whether on urban roads or highways, ensuring more precise control that is in line with traffic regulations.
- In-depth analysis of the most common infractions
The system also makes it possible to identify driver behavior patterns and act preventively, reducing the chances of accidents and recurring infractions.
- Creating custom filters
With the flexibility to generate reports by date, vehicle groups, road types and severity of violations in Golfleet, fleet management becomes much more analytical and data-driven.
- Heat maps
This Speed by Route feature allows you to view critical points with the highest incidence of infractions, allowing direct action in problem areas to avoid safety risks.
- real-time alerts
The ability to monitor incidents instantly is crucial to acting quickly and avoiding risky situations, ensuring driver safety and vehicle integrity.
