Stop and reflect: do you practice respect and responsibility in traffic? Thinking about our attitudes is extremely necessary, especially these days when we have seen good doses of lack of love in relationships instead of a culture of safety.
This reflection is so relevant that the National Observatory launched "Respect and Responsibility: practice it in traffic" as the theme of the 2021 Yellow May Movement.
In 2020, the Decade of Action for Road Safety, proposed in 2009 by the UN (United Nations) and WHO (World Health Organization), came to an end.
The bodies, at the time, drew the attention of countries to the high number of deaths and injuries in traffic and launched a proposal with the objective of reducing by 50% the number of deaths in traffic in a period of 10 years. Regrettably, the objective was not achieved.
With that, at the World Conference on Road Safety, in February last year in Sweden, the UN and the WHO proposed a 2nd Decade of Action, with the same previous objective.
The question that arises is: what do we need to do to achieve the goal and slow down the alarming statistics? That's what we at Golfleet will be addressing in today's content.
Implementation of a solid safety culture in fleet management
It is necessary to be aware that we are all part of the process and that the individual attitude of each one will contribute, and a lot, in this context.
Another key aspect is up to companies, managers must ensure the existence of a solid safety culture in fleet management.
A study by the Ministry of Transport, Ports and Aviation pointed out that the main cause of accidents is the recklessness of drivers. In a survey carried out by the agency, it was found that 53,7% of accidents occur due to human error, 30,3% due to violation of traffic laws and 23,4% due to lack of attention on the part of the driver.
We know, however, that other causes can lead to accidents, such as mechanical failures and even driver intolerance.
Whatever the reason, the fact is that if there is awareness, combined with a solid safety culture in fleet management, this scenario can change.
It is necessary to invest in driver education, ensuring that apparently simple attitudes are – in fact – respected, such as the use of seat belts, speed control, greater attention when driving and responsible and respectful behavior in traffic.
How to create safe habits among drivers?
A solid safety culture in fleet management undoubtedly has a positive impact on drivers' habits. For it to be efficient, there must be team engagement, good examples by leadership and the use of good technologies as allies.
The safety culture, by bringing together a set of actions to be practiced, minimizes the risks of all those involved and contributes to better working conditions. Employees must be aware of the benefits and importance of their own actions.
Offering training and periodic training contributes to the pursuit of the ideal proposed in the safety culture of fleet management, awakening the team in the responsible performance of their roles, inside and outside the corporate environment.
How is your team's respect and responsibility in traffic? Is there a solid safety culture in your management? Think about it and change what is necessary!
