When we got together to talk about what the web series would become We are Experts, one of the topics that stood out the most was Speed per Road.

For the second episode, we had the contribution of the fleet manager of the Edson Queiroz Group, Milena Barroso, who shared about the changes that the use of the Speed per Way (Vvia) module brought to her operation.

We also had the presence of Robson Cardozo, from GT Foods, who showed incredible results achieved with speed control. Finally, Paula Borges, a Golfleet specialist, explained further how the innovative module of our fleet management system works.

Less speeding on the road and more safety

A GT Foods, a company dedicated to food transport, went through a series of challenges and changes in its fleet management, the main one being the scrapping of its vehicles.

All of this was made worse by the lack of a telemetry system. These problems added up, making fleet control an even more complex task.

However, the partnership with Golfleet brought significant changes that not only optimized the quality of the vehicles, but also positively impacted the safety of drivers.

Below, we share some of the highlights from this episode. But, if you prefer:

This allowed us to achieve better vehicle quality, even in reducing speed, which was our main focus to work on”, shared the company representative, Robson Cardozo.

GT Foods was looking for solutions to its fleet challenges and partners willing to collaborate when it discovered it was not alone.

Therefore, Golfleet stood out as the ideal choice, offering the necessary support for implementing a telemetry system and carrying out a pilot project.

The support was fundamental for GT Foods in the processes of identifying and correcting the main flaws in its operation. “We were able to get a clear idea of what we were doing wrong: speeding.”

In 2019, the company faced a critical accident involving hospitalized victims. An alert that highlighted the urgency of addressing problems related to speeding in its fleet.

“We needed an action plan in which we could reduce these speed spikes and not have a future fatality, which was what could happen at the time”, revealed Cardozo.

The problems arising from speeding had serious implications for GT Foods. In addition to increasing the risk of serious accidents that were already happening, They have also resulted in damage to vehicles, increased fuel consumption and an alarming rate of fatalities.

To further address this obstacle, GT Foods implemented defensive driving, with the support of an internal Safety, Health and Environment (HSE) committee to monitor and present speed peaks monthly to all group managers

This approach brought to light a true picture of driver behavior and allowed areas for improvement to be identified.

GT Foods' commitment to safety was not limited to training its drivers.

This is because the company adopted a holistic approach, involving not only its current employees, but also new ones who joined over time.

Furthermore, every year, during the Yellow May, GT Foods seeks collaboration with partners to promote awareness on issues such as:

  • Speeding
  • Number of accidents
  • Using a phone while driving
  • Importance of seat belt

This effort is part of an ongoing awareness plan to promote a safer work environment for everyone involved.

“We are very grateful to Golfleet. In addition to speeding, we had a reduction in vehicle maintenance, fuel consumption and, above all, it brought safety to our company”, concludes Robson Cardozo.

Commitment to preserving lives

For the Edson Queiroz Group, efficient management of the vehicle fleet also played a crucial role in cost reduction, improved safety and increased operational efficiency.

The company remarkably understood this when it incorporated Golfleet's solution into its operation, and the results could not have been more surprising.

“With the use of Golfleet in GEQ's light motorcycle fleets, in 2022 we noticed a 22% reduction in the number of infractions”, highlights Milena Barroso.

And when it comes to infractions, one villain in particular stood out: speeding, responsible for 16% of these infractions.

Unfortunately, the statistic is no surprise considering speed is often a risk factor for our lives.

It is worth mentioning that the Edson Queiroz Group operates with a robust fleet, around 1.100 vehicles throughout Brazil.

Therefore, it is natural that the detection of these infractions would be an emerging priority. However, the value of Golfleet's telemetry system didn't stop there.

“We also noticed some problem situations related to the drivers' own behavior, which before we had no way of visualizing, the view of supply and maintenance was very restricted”, he adds.

“With Golfleet, we were able to better visualize and delve into these situations to be able to treat them”, observes Barroso.

The fleet manager of the Edson Queiroz Group sees the Speed per lane as a very powerful tool to work on culture, education and driver behavior: “Today we are able to map what would be an infraction and what would be a risk event”.

Naturally, a change of this magnitude received various types of questions and encountered some initial resistance.

Drivers frequently questioned speed limits, but the answer was clear: “The problem is traveling outside of what is indicated.”

On the other hand, the results speak for themselves. The partnership between the Edson Queiroz Group and Golfleet resulted in a reduction in infractions, an improvement in fuel consumption and, above all, a notable change in driving practices.

“But we still have a very interesting path to follow, a change in culture, which cannot be adopted in the short term”, recognizes Milena Barroso.

“Stop focusing on infractions and always focus on risky behavior, prevention and correction.”

This shows us that the Edson Queiroz Group is committed to this journey and believes that the partnership with Golfleet is a success story built year after year.

“We see a lot of gains, it is a successful partnership that has worked very well. And we just have to be grateful,” she concludes.

Transforming how managers see speed via

Paula Borges, one of the main experts in the field, defines Velocidade por Via as a revolution in the segment. In his own words, “Vvia is much more than showing the speed of the road. It is a module that allows the driver to change behavior.”

This statement could not be more true, especially after meeting our success cases with GT Foods and the Edson Queiroz Group.

Great achievements and results

The module is not just limited to monitoring speed, as it also plays a crucial role in reducing expenses. “So, it can help with savings, such as claims, fuel costs, among other things”, highlights Borges.

In other words, it is an invaluable feature for companies that manage fleets, allowing a detailed analysis of driver behavior.

Accuracy in road speed analysis

One of the most notable advantages of Velocidade por Via is the accuracy of its analyses. Paula Borges observes that “I don't need to know if the driver is braking suddenly, the Vvia provides much more accurate and precise reporting”.

This is a game changer for those who need a comprehensive view of their services and, mainly, of how their drivers operate: “not to mention the preservation of life, which becomes much more effective and we see it on a daily basis, through the use and feedback from our own customers.”

With Speed by Road, it is possible to perfectly analyze at each point on the road what the maximum speed allowed is and whether drivers are respecting these guidelines.

Customizable Dashboard

The customizable dashboard is a fundamental part of Golfleet. In the Speed per Track module, you will find the average, serious and very serious infractions per month.

It is also possible to parameterize the metrics according to the specific needs of your operation:

  • Total infractions and offenders
  • Total urban roads and highways
  • Most serious infraction in the selected period

Offender ranking

Another notable feature of Vvia is the possibility of viewing a ranking of offenders, giving greater prominence to the 10 biggest offenders, based on the route, number and type of infraction.

This analysis allows companies to identify drivers who pose the most risk and take personalized measures to take care of their safety.

“So, when you enter our module, you see how broad and rich in information it is,” says Borges.

In this sense, the improvement it has brought to the management of GT Foods and the Edson Queiroz Group is noticeable. In addition to helping with reduction percentages, it helps in preserving lives.

That's because the partnership with Golfleet is not just about delivering crucial data and information for fleet management, it represents a profound change in the mindset of companies as a whole.

Our solutions do more than present performance metrics speeding and driver behavior.

This is because they also open the eyes of managers to a new possibility: the creation of a safety culture that values life and integrity, both for its drivers and for all users of urban and highway roads.

In other words, our telemetry system is a tool that promotes awareness, responsibility and change.

Likewise, the Speed per Way (Vway) module is proof that through technology and a commitment to safety, we can create a significant and lasting impact.

It's more than just data, it's a new approach that values every life and every journey.
